Dizzy Gillespie wrote this tune in 1942 and introduced the Afro-Cuban rhythm into jazz music. His performances were distinguished by the bent trumpet that he always played and the way he puffed out his cheeks while playing. |
Here is a lively tune by saxophonist Stanley Turrentine with a bluesy feel that is fun to play. Written in 1971, it complements the traditional "standards" we usually play and will make you want to tap your feet when you hear it. |
This 1953 classic by Jimmy Van Heusen is an excellent example of the more sophisticated style of music that became popular during that era. We enjoy making the song "swing" just a bit while playing through the rich harmonic changes that make this song so special. |
Everyone will recognize this 1940 Morgan Lewis tune and want to sing along … and for anyone who is interested, the answer is "approximately 240,000 miles!" |
You can never go wrong with Cole Porter! We often like to end our sets with this enjoyable 1942 song that sends everyone home with a smile. |
